Dr. Ir. Ladiyani Retno Widowati, M.Sc. mendapatkan gelar sarjana pertanian (jurusan Ilmu Tanah) pada tahun 1993 dari Institut Pertanian Bogor. Pendidikan S2 (Jurusan Soil Science) ditempuh di University of Los Banos (UPLB) Filipina, pada tahun 1999 sampai 2001. Doctoral (Ph.D) pada Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Department of Soil Management, University of Gent-Belgia ditempuh 2006-2012.
Dr. Ladiyani saat ini sebagai Kepala Balai Penelitian Tanah (2019 - sekarang). Selain itu dari tahun 2017-2019 sebagai Kabid PE BB Biogen. Yang bersangkutan pernah juga menjabat sebagai Penanggungjawab Laboratorium Penelitian dan Uji Tanah sejak 2008 disamping aktif sebagai peneliti Kimia dan Kesuburan Tanah di Balai Penelitian Tanah, Balai Besar Penelitian dan Pengembangan Sumberdaya Lahan Pertanian, Bogor. Pernah ditugaskan menjadi Penanggungjawab Rumah Kaca bersamaan dengan Penanggungjawab Laboratorium Penelitian dan Uji Tanah, Balai Penelitian Tanah tahun (2002-2005), penanggungjawab kegiatan penelitian Penyusunan Perangkat Uji Tanah Sawah (2002-2004), dan penanggungjawab kegiatan Penyusunan Perangkat Uji Tanah Kering (2004-2005). Selain itu juga terlibat aktif dalam kegiatan penelitian kerjasama dalam negeri (perusahaan pupuk, LPI) dan luar negeri (FAO, IRRI, CGIAR, VLIR, IMPHOS).
Yang bersangkutan tertarik pada penelitian bidang Kimia dan Kesuburan Tanah dalam upaya untuk meningkatkan efisiensi pemupukan, menekan dampak pencemaran lingkungan pertanian oleh pupuk, dan mengupayakan kelestarian produktivitas lahan pertanian di Indonesia. Telah mempublikasikan beberapa karya ilmiah berbentuk jurnal dan prosiding, dalam bahasa Indonesia (40) dan Inggris (5), baik sebagai penulis utama maupun co-author. Saat ini yang bersangkutan menjabat sebagai Kasie Pelayanan Teknik Balai Penelitian Tanah.
